Though there is no dearth of evidence on effectiveness of video content, not all social media video making tools are affordable enough for a small business or social media manager to purchase and use.
In addition, it takes a considerable amount of time and effort to create a high quality piece of video content. Not every business can afford the luxury of having a full time video editor in-house.
So guess on whose shoulders falls the responsibility of creating social media videos? The content marketer or social media manager.
If you have been a regular reader of this blog, you know that I have been working on creating and launching the best online video maker. And as part of my research, I have tried and tested a lot of video making tools for social media.
So in this post, I’ll walk you through the best ones I have tried so far with brief guidance on how to use them as part of your social media and content marketing plan.
Genially is one of the most versatile social media content creating tools. You can create infographics, video presentations, quizzes, eposters and more. Plus, it also has infographic templates which can be animated.
If you have ever used Canva, you’ll feel right at home with Genially. The user interface is similar, and therefore easy to quickly understand and start creating. There are many templates, which can be customized to your liking, apart from giving you plenty of inspiration and ideas.
If you want to create a video presentation for example, there are 25+ templates to choose from.
Another great thing about Genially is the inspiration panel. Here you can view the video content that other users have been creating. So if you have been tired of brainstorming ideas for your video content, you know where to go.
Genially pricing plans have something for everyone. They range from €0 to €80 per month. However, if you are using the free version, you cannot download any of your image or video designs. You can just share them with a link.
Other differences between the free and paid packages are access to premium templates, privacy control, ability to download as PDF or JPG, folder organization and more.
Overall, I like Genially as an affordable and multi-purpose tool that can certainly be very useful in your toolbox.
Ripl is an app available for both iOS and Android. With this app, you can make short animated videos using a number of professionally designed video templates.
A social media workflow already integrated into the user interface shows the app’s focus on social media marketing. All you need to do is sign up and connect with your social network accounts, and you’re ready to post on social media.
With Ripl, you can post to Facebook, Youtube, Facebook groups, LinkedIn, and more. You also have the option to export your videos in case you want to use somewhere else.
With built-in analytics, you can also monitor engagement for your social activity, including videos you made in Ripl and other posts.
There is a free plan with limited features. But you can get more duration, templates, fonts and music tracks at $10 a month. Overall, it’s a great little tool for short videos such as flash sale announcements, product launches, greetings and holiday quotes.
With Animaker, you can create whiteboard explainer and infographic videos. You can pick characters that align with your industry or brand, along with video frames that are highly customizable.
Even if you don’t want to add cartoon characters to your social media video, Animaker has plenty of other options to get the look you want.
The feature that I like the most in Animaker is the voice-over tool. It lets you easily turn your text or script into voice overs that sound like a human.
Once you’ve entered your voiceover script or text, you can play it and hear what it sounds like. Once reviewed, you can download it as an audio file to use with your videos.
What’s really cool is you can control things like pronunciation, pitch, volume, speech rate and more from the advanced voice controls.
The pricing plans vary from $0 – $39 a month. With a pricier package, you get advantages in video length, number of exports per month, download formats and more.
Overall, Animaker is a great video maker with a lot of features, but is not as user-friendly and intuitive as some of the other tools on the list. However to be fair, Animaker does provide plenty of easy to follow tutorials to learn and get better at video creation.
Tyle is one of a kind video creation tool that tackles on a weakness common to all the other template based tools. No matter what tool you are using, you usually end up messing the design if you tweak one of the readymade templates too much.
But this is not the case with Tyle. When you change something (like font size) in one of the Tyle video templates, its smart editor adjusts design automatically to boost overall appearance and readability.
In addition, you also get access to millions of stock photos, video clips and more right from within the tool. So there is no need to purchase or shoot them on your own.
You can either pay for the video as you go, based on a per slide pricing, or buy an annual subscription at just $24 a month.
Want to get more out of your existing blog content? Turn you blog posts into videos with Lumen5. Pick an existing blog or article, and Lumen will import the text and images from the post.
The fonts, positioning, transitions and more properties can easily be edited. Once you’re done making changes, the final video can be used in landscape or square format.
Lumen5 can also auto-create videos from your blog posts if you submit your RSS feed. The feed will be used to turn your blog posts into simple clips, which can be customized as desired.
The free version allows for unlimited videos, 480p quality, and 10 million video files, but the video will have a watermark. If you want to remove the Lumen5 branding, you can upgrade to Pro at $49 a month.
Biteable is another strong contender in the DIY social media video market with free and premium versions. There is a wide range of drag and drop video templates to suit different sectors and social media channels.
Whether you want to create a fun, short video for twitter or a formal Slideshare presentation, Biteable can do the job.
If you buy the premium version, you’ll be able to pick your own music and access from 85000+ stock clips to use in your video. Other than video footage, you also get simple animation and claymation sequences to help produce explainer videos.
It also makes it easy to brand your videos with your own logo, fonts and colors. Once finalized, you can download the video to your computer.
The free version gives you HD quality videos, 1GB storage and the ability to create up to 5 videos per month. With the premium version at $23 a month, there is no limit on how many videos you create. You also get the freedom to download your videos and upload your own raw footage.
PosterMyWall is one of the latest social media video creation tools in the market. And I must say it doesn’t disappoint.
With this tool, you can create graphics, images and videos and “pay as you go.” So you pay for one of your designs only when you want to download it. In addition, there are monthly packages you can subscribe to.
Where PosterMyWall really shines among other contenders is a huge library of high quality stock footage. From the video library, you can easily search for a clip that fits your project.
A custom HD video you create in PosterMyWall will cost you around $15, while a subscription is $100 a year. However, note that even if you are a subscriber, you may need to pay $7 per video. Needless to say, PosterMyWall can benefit greatly from a simpler pricing model.
Overall, it’s a neat video creation tool featuring a modern interface ideal for making videos for Instagram or Facebook. Using the drag and drop functionality, social media marketers can make cool videos in less than an hour.
Shakr is one of the most expensive social media video makers on this list. And it’s not that hard to see why.
Because of it’s high performance features which help in creating effective, ROI generating videos, it’s the go-to video creation tool for a majority of Facebook marketers.
With Shakr Advertise, you can also promote your video ads on Facebook and Instagram. In fact, there’s also an integrated analyzer to help you track performance of your campaigns, as well as provide reporting on audience demographics.
Another great thing about Shakr is availability of a ton of video templates for Facebook covers, ecommerce, gaming apps and more.
Shakr pricing plans vary from $99 – $349 a month. All plans allow you to create as many videos you want without watermarks. The difference lies in number of team members who can collaborate on an account and to how many clients you can resell the videos.
All in all, Shakr is expensive but worth it if you know what you’re doing. If you are serious about translating your social media marketing into tangible revenue, you may want to invest in Shakr.
